Objective:

  1. To make the students aware about poultry based livelihood system in agriculture.
  2. To expose the student to various aspects of establishment and management of a poultry farm.
  3. To enhance the skill for employment and entrepreneurship in poultry production.

Course Outcomes:By the end of this course, students will be able to:

  1. Students learn about the external body parts and reproductive, digestive system of poultry.
  2. Students learn about farm management practices of poultry.
  3. Students will learn judging of poultry.
  4. Students will learn judging of poultry.
  5. Students learn how to formulate ration for poultry.
  6. Students learn about the economics of poultry.

  • External body parts of poultry birds. Identification of different breeds of poultry.
  • Handling and Identification methods of poultry.
  • Visit to poultry farms.
  • Daily routine farm operations and farm records of poultry farms.
  • Judging, selection & culling of poultry.
  • Planning and layout of housing for different types of poultry.
  • Computation and formulation of ration for poultry.
  • Study composition and nutritive composition of poultry eggs.
  • Collection, Grading, Handling and storage of eggs.
  • Hatchery management of poultry.
  • Management of chicks, growers and layers.
  • Poultry farm equipment’s.
  • Debeaking, dusting of poultry.
  • Different diseases of livestock and poultry, their prevention and control.
  • Economics of poultry production.
